“Brown Woman” represents a striking balance between the ostensible and the subtle.   The woman’s facial expression of quiet confidence and the intense gaze of her eyes are readily apparent.  But what makes the work come alive is the deft use of texture in the wood background, adding character and definition to her presumed “personality.”  Where is she from?   What is her life about?  One may ask.
