Navar
investigates themes such as identity, memory, cultural nourishment, dreams and
celebration, often employing a male or female figure as an archetypal model. Within these
archetypes he is drawn to relationships within ourselves as well as between people and the
environment- urban, natural and cosmic. For Navar art is an essential source of his inner
energy. It serves as a gateway into a festive state of peace, reflection and education.

"This
painting is one of several paintings that I've worked on this Spring and Summer (2003)
inspired by dilemmas that often are resolved by sacrificing things that we as individuals
and society value (or should, in my opinion, value) most, such as life, peace, love. In
the current volatile global climate, certain things that are of utmost importance, such as
life and peace, are sacrificed in order to accomplish something or nothing through
misunderstandings, injustices and war."

"This
painting was created because I wished to explore a different perspective and way of
expressing the idea of self-reflection. It is also dealing with the notion of how one sees
him/herself reflected from the eyes of others. Sunglasses, like masks, may accentuate and
conceal."
