This rich and endearing
series of four works by Fajardo traces the history of the Philippines from its
pre-colonial era to todays agrarian village life.
The fourth and final work The Nature of Life takes us
back full circle to the agrarian society of the first piece in the series. It shows how this lifestyle remained constant
throughout the times. |
Fajardo,
a leader in Ksibulan, a prominent women artists group, comments on historical
events from a feminist perspective. In her
tarot card series exhibited here, she indigenizes the tarot images to convey a narrative
of socio-political and colonial struggles. Her
reverence for indigenous history and progressive womens issues make her a distinct
voice in the Filipina contemporary art scene.
Fajardo
has exhibited in numerous group exhibitions, including the Asian Art Museum of San
Francisco. Most recently she was given the
Centennial Award for the Arts by the Cultural Center for the Philippines. |
